How would you describe this photo to someone who couldn't see it? I would say that the main object/focus in this picture is the back of a triangular street sign, and directly above the street sign is a cloud that looks like three ice-cream scoops. To the left of the street sign there is a house and a caravan. There is also a large tree behind the caravan. To the right of the street sign, there is a long road, with trees on either side of it. Also, there is a quite old fashioned car. How is space represented in this photo (foreground, middle ground, background)? The foreground in this photo is represented by the street sign, that is close in front of the photographer. The middleground is an empty piece of land, with a caravan, a car, a few trees and a house. The background is the sky, and the long road. What is in or out of focus? How has the subject been framed/cropped? Mainly, the photo is in focus & the picture has been taken in landscape. Which part of the photograph strikes you as most interesting - captivating, surprising, puzzling, mysterious? Why? The cloud directly on top of the street sign strikes me as most interesting because we don't know if the photographer had to wait for the cloud to reach the sign, or if it was already there. What questions would you ask the artist about this work, if s/he were here? I would ask the artist where this was taken, and what date. Also, I would ask them if they had to wait at all to take the picture. What do you think it would be like to live in this photograph? What makes you think that? I think to live in this picture would be living in America. Also, I think that you'd the living in the 1980/90's, because it doesn't look modern. Also I think it would be quite derelict. Why do you suppose the artist made this photograph? What makes you think that? I think the artist made this photo because the cloud on top of the triangular street sign looks like an ice-cream cone, with ice-cream. What do you think is effective about this photograph? I think the fact that it's in black and white is effective, because if there was colour, we would've been directed away from the cloud, and more interested in the colours of everything else. Also, if it was in colour, the cloud wouldn't have looked like and ice-cream scoop, which is the main focus of this photo.
